Arthur Avenue Food Tours

About Arthur Avenue Food Tours

What is Arthur Avenue: Little Italy in the Bronx also known simply as "Arthur Avenue" is New York's real Little Italy. Our neighborhood has dozens of Italian food shops and restaurants within just a few city blocks, most of which have been family-owned for between 50-100 years.

Why our tours are the best: Our family has been on Arthur Avenue since 1918 so our tours have been crafted from generations of experience. We know who makes the best mozzarella, who crafts their cannoli from a 115-year old award winning recipe and which deli honors Prosciutto di Parma by slicing it paper thin. We've taken the trial-and-error away from your shopping experience. Throughout the tour we'll weave in stories from the history of the neighborhood, from how Arthur Avenue got its name to Broadway's "A Bronx Tale."

Who leads our tours: Co-founders Danielle Oteri and Christian Galliani are Italian food and wine experts. Danielle’s food and travel writing has been published in Conde Nast Traveler, Roads & Kingdoms and NPR. Danielle's great-grandfather first settled on Arthur Avenue in 1918 and the Academy Award winning movie "Marty" was filmed in his butcher shop. Christian is an award winning sommelier who was on the wine team at Michelin-starred Del Posto, lead sommelier at Tarry Lodge and Beverage Manager at Eataly Downtown. As a first generation Italian-American, he grew up shopping on Arthur Avenue with his immigrant parents.

What to do in Little Italy before or after the tour

The Italian enclave known as locally as "Arthur Avenue" is bordered by Fordham University's leafy campus, the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo. Here are our suggestions for what to do before or after our walking tour of Little Italy in the Bronx.

  • Check out the exhibition schedule at the New York Botanical Garden. The Holiday Train Show is a family tradition as is the Orchid Show in the spring.
  • Right at the end of 187th Street, near Joe's Italian Deli, is the entrance to the Bronx Zoo. Italian workers who helped build this world class institution were among the original founders of the Italian enclave. Kids love the new zip line attraction called the Bronx Zoo Treetop Adventure.
  • If you're still hungry after the tour (tastings are equivalent to a medium-sized lunch) check out the Arthur Avenue restaurants. If you need a recommendation, here are our recommendations for the best Little Italy restaurants
  • Enjoy the sunshine in Vincent Ciccarone Park, watch the bocce ball players or let your kids have fun on the playground.

Tour includes:

  • Imported Italian cheeses
  • Specialty breads
  • House cured salumi
  • Pastries
  • Freshly made mozzarella
  • Pizza

  • Tour runs rain or shine, please dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Walking covers approximately 6 square city blocks. There are two opportunities for bathroom breaks.
