DAY 1 (FRIDAY, JUNE 28): WELCOME TO CILENTO
Our private coach will pick you up in Rome at noon in front of the Westin Excelsior Hotel. We'll then travel to the Cilento, a part of Campania that is heavily influenced by Greek culture.
We'll check-in at Borgo La Pietraia, a lush property overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. After you've had a chance to rest and take a dip in the pool, we'll meet for a special welcome dinner at FOOD Restaurant, the property's fine-dining restaurant led by chef Mario Stellato.
DAY 2 (SATURDAY, JUNE 29): COOKING WITH THE BARONESSA AND PAESTUM
We'll spend the morning at Masseria Eliseo, a family estate and buffalo farm where we'll enjoy a five-course cooking class led by Baronessa Cecilia Baratta Bellelli. After lunch in her dining room, we'll visit the 6th century B.C.E. temples at Paestum. We'll have a 1-hour tour of the ruins followed by free time to explore.
DAY 3 (SUNDAY, JUNE 30): CILENTO COAST
Explore the natural coast of the Cilento and the ancient Greek settlement at Velia where the Eleatic School of Philosophers once lived. We'll visit the seaside villages where the Mediterranean Diet was first discovered and where the locals have been studied from their extraordinary good health and long lives. In the evening we'll have dinner at a restaurant in Borgo Castellabate, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Italy's most beautiful small villages.
DAY 4 (MONDAY, JULY 1): IRPINIA AND NAPLES
Pack your bags for our transfer to Naples. First we'll drive deep into the cool, lush mountains and the territory called Irpinia one of Italy's most prestigious wine regions. After a tour of the vines at Feudi Di San Gregorio, the largest winemaker in Southern Italy, we'll enjoy a private lunch and wine tasting in their cellar. We'll arrive in Naples in time for the evening passeggiata along the Bay. Relax at the hotel or go out for a late night pizza with our curated list of Naples's best pizzerias in hand.
DAY 5 (TUESDAY, JULY 2): WELCOME TO SICILY AND LO ZINGARO NATURE PRESERVE
After a morning flight to Palermo from Naples, we’ll settle in to our agriturismo in the village of Scopello. In the early evening, we’ll embark from the nearby marina at Castellammare del Golfo for a coastal boat excursion to enjoy swimming in the crystal-clear sea of Lo Zingaro Nature Preserve.
DAY 6 (WEDNESDAY, JULY 3): ERICE, TRAPANI’S SALT PANS, AND MOZIA
In the late morning, we’ll head to the walled city of Erice, where in ancient times the Goddess of Love ruled, and today, captivating boutiques and sweeping views of the Tyrrhenian Sea will bewitch you. After lunch on your own, as a group, we’ll tour Trapani’s salt pans and take a short boat ride to tour the island of Mozia, which was a Phoenician outpost until the late 4th century BCE. For dinner, we’ll enjoy couscous as the sun sets over the antique windmills.
DAY 7 (THURSDAY, JULY 4): VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES AND AN OLIVE FARM
In our private coach, we’ll travel to Agrigento for the day to be inspired by Valley of the Temples with an expert guide. After being mesmerized by the Temple to Juno, the Temple of Concordia, and the Temple of Hercules, to name just three of the seven at the UNESCO site, we’ll stop at an olive farm, where we’ll learn about olive cultivation and enjoy typical cuisine of western Sicily.
DAY 8 (FRIDAY, JULY 5): REST AND RELAX IN SCOPELLO
Our home base, Scopello will host your wills and desires today. Enjoy the property at our family-run inn—the pool, the sun terrace, and the grapevines on the hillside. Walk to the village for a pane cunzato (typical sandwich) and gelato, and take a swim among the rock stacks at the nearby ancient tuna fishery.
DAY 9 (SATURDAY, JULY 6): PALERMO MARKETS AND MONREALE CATHEDRAL
Bring your appetite, because we’re heading to the center of Palermo where we’ll enjoy a walking tour through the historic, open-air markets while we taste the treasures of the city’s world-renowned street food. After some time on your own, we’ll head to the medieval town of Monreale to be dazzled by the UNESCO recognized Cathedral with its more than 68,000 square feet of mosaic tile designs illustrating scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
DAY 10 (SUNDAY, JULY 7): EARLY FLIGHT FROM PALERMO TO ROME
As a group we’ll have an early-morning departure from Palermo airport to Rome.
We recommend arriving in Rome by June 27th. The tour begins when our private coach picks up the group in front of the Westin Excelsior Hotel at noon on June 28th.
This tour officially concludes at the Rome (Fiumicino) airport following our flight from Palermo. If you are booking a return flight, please leave time to make the connection as the airport is large and the domestic and international terminals are far from each other.
Danielle Oteri is an art historian and an expert on the history of Campania. She completed her graduate studies in Florence, Italy, taught art history at Seton Hall University and has been a Lecturer at The Cloisters, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Program Director of the International Center of Medieval Art. She founded Feast On History in 2012 in collaboration with her cousins in the Cilento who own and operate Borgo La Pietraia.
Danielle's art, food and history writing has appeared in Condé Nast Traveler, Grove Dictionary of Art, Gothamist, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NPR and Roads & Kingdoms. Danielle is passionate about the lesser known history of Southern Italy and makes it a point to seek out something new every time she visits Italy.
Allison Scola has been traveling to Sicily regularly since 1996, when at 24 years old, she met her grandmother's sister and her children and grandchildren for the first time as an adult. Since the moment she stepped off the train at Palermo's Stazione Centrale, her life has not been the same: she fell in love with Sicily and Sicilians.
Combining more than 20 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, and performing arts with her deep knowledge of Sicily's culture, history, and hidden corners, Allison created Experience Sicily in 2013 with her Sicilian cousin and now business partner Evelina Buttitta. The tour officially begins with your transfer from the Rome Westin Excelsior Hotel to our inn in Cilento at noon on Friday, June 28, 2019 and officially ends with your flight from Palermo to Rome on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Our first group event will be meeting at noon on June 28, 2019 at the Rome Westin Excelsior Hotel. Please plan accordingly. The official conclusion of our tour on July 7, 2019 is with check-out of our hotel in Scopello and a private transfer to Punta Raisa Falcone-Borsellino Airport with a coordinated flight to Rome Fiumicino Airport.
The boutique nature of this itinerary means that it is subject to change as we get closer to departure. Our objective is to include activities and events that are tailored to our guests’ interests. Therefore, in most cases, changes will enhance your experience, as it is our mission to provide you with the most memorable experience in Italy.
The trip price is for double occupancy and does not include international airfare. There is a single supplement of $1000.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
A deposit of $2,000 per person (the “Deposit”), payable to Danielle Oteri/Feast On History (hereinafter “Feast on History”), of which $350 is non-refundable for administrative fees, is required at the time of the submission of the reservation application for the program (hereinafter, “the Program”) for each participant (“Participant”). Final payment, by check or wire transfer, must be received 120 days prior to departure.
All Participants must be in good physical health. The Program involves extensive walking over uneven surfaces and climbing stairs at monuments and other locations not handicapped accessible, and climbing in and out of various conveyances. Any condition that may require assistance or special medical attention as well as any food allergies or intolerances must be reported at the time of the Participant’s reservation. In addition, Campania has many winding roads. Feast on History has designed the itinerary to break up the driving as much as possible, but on some days, long drives will be necessary. A Participant who suffers from motion sickness should bring motion sickness medication with him or her.
Photographs or, in some cases, videos of Participants of Feast on History Programs may be used for educational and promotional purposes by Feast on History and each of the Participants expressly consents to this manner of promotional use when reservations are completed.
Though Feast On History does not provide insurance coverage, Feast on History strongly urges Participants to purchase travel insurance to cover trip cancellation (including cancellation of the Program at the discretion of MHC), emergency medical evaluation, lost or damaged baggage, accidents, sickness or otherwise.
CHANGES IN ITINERARY & COSTS
Changes in Itinerary & Costs – Feast on History and its partners are committed to creating an enjoyable Program itinerary. If improvements can be made prior to the commencement of or even during the Program, or if unforeseen conditions make changes necessary, Feast on History reserves the right to vary the Program itinerary and/or substitute hotels or accommodations of a reasonably equivalent quality and will not be held responsible for any of these types of changes or occurrences. Individual deviations or additions to or from the scheduled Program itinerary are at the sole expense of the individual Participant. All prices are subject to change without prior notice due to currency fluctuation, fuel prices and/or unforeseen economic circumstances.
Responsibility Clause – In no event will Feast on History assume responsibility or liability for any act, error, or omission, or for any injury, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity including death which may occur to a Participant or a Participant’s property during or in relation to the Program, including any injury, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity including death that may result from the act, error, omission, default or even negligence of any subcontractor or other third party. In no event will Feast on History be liable or responsible for loss, injury, damages, or expenses to the person or property of a Participant, including, without limitation, any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages. The limitation of liability of Feast on History shall be regardless of cause or reason for any asserted loss of Participant, including for loss to Participant due to illness, weather, strikes, local laws, hostilities, wars, terrorist acts, acts of nature, or other such causes in connection with the Program. Feast on History is not responsible for transportation delays or Program delays and changes, nor for additional expenses or loss of time that may be incurred in connection therewith. In the event it becomes necessary or advisable for the comfort or well-being of the Participants, or for any reason whatsoever, to alter the Program itinerary at any time, without notice to the Participants, Feast on History reserves the right to carry out such alterations and will not be held responsible for said alterations. Baggage and personal effects of any Participant shall at all times remain the sole and exclusive responsibility of such Participant. Feast on History reserves the right to accept or decline any person as a Participant at any time, or to require any Participant to withdraw from the Program at the expense of said Participant when such an action is determined by Feast on History to be in the best interest of the Participant’s health and safety, or the general welfare of the other Participants within the Program.
Feast on History must strictly adhere to its cancellation policy to offset costs incurred prior to the commencement of The Program, which may include but are not limited to: advance payments to land operators; ship charters; communication expenses; development/promotional expenses; and the loss of time that might have permitted resale of reserved space. To be effective, any cancellation must be made in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org and are subject to a $350 non-refundable administrative fee. All refunds are limited to amounts actually received by Feast on History. At the time Feast on History receives written notification of cancellation, the following cancellation charges will apply: cancellations received between 120 and 91 days prior to departure, 20 percent of the Program cost per person; those received between 90 and 61 days before departure, 50 percent of the Program cost per person; no refunds will be given for cancellations received within 60 days of departure. No partial refunds shall be given for individual deviations from the scheduled Program itinerary, including, but not limited to, missed excursions, tours, meals, transportation or lodging, for any reason.
However, Feast on History reserves the right to cancel the Program prior to departure for any reason and, in such case, reimbursement of refundable costs of the Program by Feast on History shall constitute full settlement with the Participant. Feast on History shall not be liable for any airline fees or cancellation penalties incurred by the purchase of a non-refundable ticket. In the unlikely event that a dispute arises between a Participant and Feast on History, the following conditions will apply: (a) the dispute will be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association in New York, NY; (b) the dispute will be governed by New York Law; (c) the maximum amount of recovery to which a Participant shall be entitled under any and all circumstances will be the sum of all monies actually received from the Participant by Feast on History. The Participant agrees that this is a fair and reasonable limitation on the damages, of any sort whatsoever, that a Participant may suffer. Upon payment of the Deposit to MHC, the Participant agrees to be bound by the above terms and conditions.
